Sketch Club App Review

Posted on March 20, 2011

Since getting the iPad 2 I’ve been on a hunt for a great app for creating art. Somehow even some of the more popular ones just haven’t really impressed me. Mostly it’s the pixelation or I just don’t like the choice of brushes. However, I have finally found one I love and the price is just right. Let’s take a look at Sketch Club for iPhone and iPad.

By default when you open Sketch Club the “smooth” brush is chosen (you can easily change that). I looooove this brush because it’s what I’ve been looking for! I has that storyboard feel to it and is so whimsical and fun. Let the creative juices flow! Sketch Club gets it right when it comes to resolution, brushes, colors, text, everything. I’ve seen professional artists rave about how this application beats all the other art apps out there – it’s definitely got something special going!

Here’s a look at what is possible with this application:

What I like:

  • Much better resolution than I have found elsewhere
  • The brushes are superb- better than what I have found elsewhere
  • There’s an online community to share your sketches with (that’s why there’s a “Club” in “Sketch Club”
  • They are constantly updating and improving the app
  • It’s simple – you don’t get overwhelmed with toolbars
  • Fun pixel brush for old school sketches
  • It’s just better! I don’t know how or why, but I like it much better than the others I’ve tried

What could improve:

  • Zooming in and zooming out can be tempermental
  • Layering option isn’t available yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s coming soon

If you’ve been frustrated with the yucky look of the other art apps out there, you need to give Sketch Club a try. It’s much more affordable than most of them at just $1.99! Pick it up for iPhone here: ¬† Sketch Club – or the iPad version here: Sketch Club –
