Jack and the Beanstalk App Review

Posted on March 21, 2011

Ayars Animation does it again. This classic story is brought to life in a fresh way with this digital storybook (works on both the iPhone/iTouch and the iPad). Beautifully illustrated, professional voice overs and fun surprises along the way.

This 32 page version of jack and the Beanstalk is fun and whimsical – though not as interactive as Cozmo’s Day Off. There are a lot of “Jack and the Beanstalk” versions in the app store, but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. In a moment I’ll point out why I like it, and share some pickup tricks I learned elsewhere when it comes to choosing apps.

I would suggest you buy this if you have a child in the early years of elementary learning to read slightly more complex books and you don’t want too many interactive distractions deterring them from the reading.

What I like about it:

  • The artwork is great – very clean and professional
  • Fun interactive surprises and even a couple games
  • Pleasant music
  • Great setting options (choose autoplay, music, narration, text and more options)
  • Fun voice overs your child can activate by touching characters
  • Pay once to get it on both your iPad and iPhone

What could improve:

  • More interactive surprises would be nice, but again, if you have a young reader this might be a good thing by keeping them on track – not a plethora of distractions
  • The story is a little bit long for very young ones

A great classic definitely worth the investment – and you can load it on both your iPad and iPhone (it bugs me when you have to pay twice to get an app on both devices, but thankfully you don’t have to do that with this one). Check it out in the app store here for iPhone: Jack and the Beanstalk Children’s Interactive Storybook – Ayars Animation Inc. or for you iPad here: Jack and the Beanstalk Children’s Interactive Storybook – Ayars Animation Inc.

[...] Jack and the Beanstalk by Ayars Animation (universal app $3.99) is yet another classic book that has been brought to new life. It’s not quite as interactive as some books are, but if parents don’t like too much distraction within a book app, but don’t want to sacrifice quality and stunning graphics, this app fits the bill. There are still fun, interactive games within the story, but not too much so the kids will forget the story. This is the perfect bedtime story app for parents and kids to read and explore together.
