Interactive Alphabet – ABC Flashcards Review

Posted on June 14, 2011

Interactive Alphabet – ABC Flashcards is a great basic application for learning the alphabet. If you are looking for an app that teaching upper and lower case and includes interactive activities for each one, this will be your cup of tea.

Each letter features a little activity for an object that goes with the letter (ie, “eat” a virtual apple for the letter “A”).  Each activity keeps the letter sounds a little easier to remember. The interface works smoothly for little fingers and my kids had no problems learning the “system.”

This app also features fun, kid-friendly music. Choose from a variety of songs and even listen to an original alphabet songs the developers included. This adds to the look and feel and keeps things fun.

I would love to see more letter sounds. Interactive alphabet does great at teaching letter names, but I wish there was a way to integrate letter sounds more solidly. My two and three year old know their letter sounds, but that didn’t come from any of the apps we own. I purchased a special dvd and worked with them. Currently, I don’t know of any apps that teach the absolute basic letter sounds well.

Baby mode is a big plus. If you have a little one who cannot yet interact with technology, this mode will advance the letters every 15 seconds on its own. The narrator’s voice is soothing and this could be a great pre-nap-time wind down activity for infants on mommy’s lap.

Interactive Alphabet is available for both iPhone and iPad. It’s simple, easy to get around, the music is upbeat and kid-friendly and my toddler and preschooler enjoy it. It gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
