Splish Splash Inn And Photo Safari! App Reviews ★★★★☆

Posted on June 21, 2011

I usually don’t lump reviews together, but in this case it seems appropriate because these are two wonderful little apps from the same developer. First, let’s take a look at Photo Safari!

This adorable app focuses on animal recognition. A child safari guide asks your child to find a particular animal within a group of animals. Once your child finds the animal in question, he or she can snap a picture of it and put the picture in the photo album. As they continue to find the correct animals, the safari gets more difficult (more animals added to the scene). The animation is pleasantly uncluttered. The voice over is very cute as well.

Photo Safari! is a great app for kids who just can’t get enough of learning animal names. The app is available for both iPhone and iPad (though we tried the iPad version for this review). I’d love to see a few more features, but all in all, it’s a simple, easy-to-navigate app for young ones.

Now, what about Splish Splash Inn? From the title I wasn’t sure what this educational app would be about. In short, it’s a counting app for little ones that has a sea-theme.

Once you choose to play the app, a bit of animation begins. A little fish swims along happily until he run accross an undersea inn (The Splish Splash Inn). The inn has ten doors – each numbered accordingly. Once your child touches a door, they will hear a child count to the number specified on the door and see sea creatures appear. Once the counting is done, they can interact with the creatures a bit.

Similarities With Brainwave Entrainment Programs

If you are already familiar with these apps, you will have no doubt that they bear some similarities with meditation music programs (particularly those which employ brainwave entrainment technologies). They both work on increasing brain power by tapping into the subconscious, and this works well if isochronic tones are used. You'll also see some similiarities between these apps with those which enhances meditation.

The app is clean, simple and easy to learn. I was hoping there would be a bit more to it, but overall it’s a great start and ideal for little ones just learning to count.

I am glad the developer has kept both apps simple, beautiful and delightfully educational. I give Splish Splash Inn and Photo Safari 4 out of 5 stars.
