If you’ve always wanted the protection you’ve heard an Otterbox offers, but just can’t justify forking out $50 for one of their cases, look no further. A lesser-known company has produced a worthy competitor at a much more affordable price. The Ballistic Hard Core Cases for iPhone sell for $29.99 and are just as great at keeping your iPhone cozy and safe.
Recently I acquired a case and was a bit skeptical at first. I’ve been an Otterbox user for months and it’s kept my iPhone safe more times than I can remember. Would the Ballistic HC case stand up to the Otterbox? I wasn’t sure…until I opened the package.
Everything about this case screams protection. The corners are extra padded, a screen protector, a hard inner shell (that can be used on its own if you prefer), a padded silicone layer on the outside that offers nice grip, and it’s looks very cool. Also, if you like wearing your phone on your belt or clipping it to your purse, there’s a clip that comes with it.
Before writing this review, we wanted to test the case out thoroughly, so we’ve used it for a few weeks now and our feelings about it are still very positive. It protects the phone when it’s dropped. Sits easily in little hands (if your kids use your phone a lot). We also love that you can remove the outer shell if you need to take off some of the bulk for any reason. It’s a good, sturdy, protective case that has not disappointed us and has kept the iPhone from breaking even in the hands of our preschooler and toddler.
The only con we really noticed was the screen protector. It’s not quite as durable as we’d like and has shown scratches after just a few weeks. Thankfully, it doesn’t have issues with watermarking, but after a few more weeks I think the scratches will be a bit too noticeable. Hopefully when the next generation of Ballistic HC cases are released, this will be something that will be improved upon.
