Gesundheit! Proves That Sneezing Pigs Can Be Heroes, Too.

Posted on August 1, 2011

This little piggy went to market. This little piggy went home. This little piggy tried roast beef. This little piggy had none. And this little piggy cried, “Sneeze! Sneeze! Sneeze!” all the way through forty levels full of booger-loving-piggy-eating monsters.

Gesundheit by Konami (sold separately for iPhone and iPad) has taken a that is so bizarrely unique and turned it into something insanely fun. Players won’t be able to take their eyes off the characters and settings. The pigs are adorable, the monsters are cute and humorous and the settings are full of texture and depth.

The game is centered around a little green pig who has become a bit of an outcast due to his allergies and frequent sneezing (hence the name of the game – the German word used to “bless” someone after a sneeze). The other little pigs are soon captured by some strange, giant, booger-eating monsters and they somehow miss the green one. It’s now up to him to outsmart the monsters and save his friends!

The game employs lots of variety and 40 levels of quick-thinking fun. The point is to navigate around maze-like streets and buildings to avoid getting eaten (the violence is very silly and not gory) to trick the monsters into walking into a trap. Sounds easy, but it actually gets quite challenging. New twists, like portals and buttons and flowers, are added all the time to keep things interesting. Think fast and shoot boogers as fast as you can to distract the monster and buy time to sneak away.

The graphics are where this game particularly shines. Everything about the artwork is unique and intricate. The characters are memorable and fun, and the scenery is just eye-catching. The music and sound effects are entertaining and add to the feel (my husband even noticed them as he heard me playing the game and was very curious about the game just from the unique noises). Here’s the trailer to give you a taste of what we mean:

Geshundheit might sound a bit icky, but the crudeness isn’t in-your-face nasty. It’s mild and just silly. Konami has managed to make a uniquely interesting, fun game appealing to both adults and kids. Gesundheit will not only have you laughing, but promises to give your brain and fingers a good workout as you try to help the runt of the herd save his cute pals from the booger-eating monsters. Happy sneezing.
